3rd league - "Difficult for me": Perplexity at 1860 Munich
The helpless TSV 1860 Munich is staggering towards the end of the year. After the botched debut of interim coach Frank Schmöller, the "Lions" are sliding even deeper into crisis. The assessment of the successor to Maurizio Jacobacci, who has been suspended, is already disastrous ahead of the last match in the 3rd Football League on Wednesday (7.00 pm) at SV Waldhof Mannheim, a direct competitor for relegation.
"I tried to communicate a lot with the boys. We no longer really lived as a team on the pitch, the lads no longer spoke to each other," said Schmöller after the 2-0 (0-2) defeat at Arminia Bielefeld on Sunday. "We tried to get the lads talking to each other more again. I will give my all, whether I have a coaching license or not."
"It's all a bit difficult for me at the moment"
Schmöller is actually just the buffer until a new coach is found. But the candidates will be taking a very close look at Munich's recent sobering performances. "I currently have no idea how we can improve our goal-scoring. It's all a bit difficult for me at the moment," said Schmöller, almost resignedly.
Former 1860 professional Merveille Biankadi in the 12th minute and Arminen attacker Fabian Klos (24th) scored the goals for the East Westphalians after an unfortunate defensive action by captain Jesper Verlaat. The visitors pressed after the break, especially after Bielefeld's Maximilian Großer was shown a red card for an emergency brake against Morris Schröter (64'). However, the "Lions" were unable to score.
First a new sporting director, then a new coach
"You could see a reaction from the team, even if everything is going against us unfortunately again. We have to work our way out of this situation," said managing director Marc-Nicolai Pfeifer, who will have to leave in the summer at the latest.
His chosen successor, Christian Werner, most recently a scout at Waldhof Mannheim, has not yet been confirmed by the club. This is also hampering planning for a new coach. The sports director is to be appointed first, then a decision will be made on the coach. "In the summer, we made a recommendation to the committees for the position of sporting director, and the situation remains unchanged," Pfeifer explained to MagentaSport. "Christian Werner remains my personal recommendation. Only then can we talk about the coach."
A peaceful Christmas for the "Lions"?
With currently only three points ahead of a relegation place, the "Lions" will once again experience a restless Christmas. "Christmas is a peaceful time. Perhaps we can find a common path and a decision on that basis," said Pfeifer.
