Difficult Champions League group for Magdeburg's handball team

German champions SC Magdeburg will face defending champions and record winners FC Barcelona, among others, in the preliminary round. Füchse Berlin will face newcomers Fredericia in the premier class.

Handball - Difficult Champions League group for Magdeburg's handball team

SC Magdeburg, the German Handball Masters, have drawn a challenging group in the Champions League. The team coached by Bennet Wiegert will face title defenders and record winners FC Barcelona from Spain, as well as the Danish champion Aalborg HB, who reached the final last season, in Group B. The draw took place on Thursday in Vienna.

SCM's opponents also include Industria Kielce (Poland), Pick Szeged (Hungary), HBC Nantes (France), HC Zagreb (Croatia), and Kolstad HB (Norway). As the second Bundesliga representative, the Füchse Berlin will face Wisla Plock (Poland), Telekom Veszprem (Hungary), Paris Saint-Germain (France), Fredericia HB (Denmark, newcomer to the King's League), Sporting Lissabon (Portugal), Eurofarm Pelister Bitola (North Macedonia), and Dinamo Bukarest (Romania) in Group A.

The women's team of HB Ludwigsburg, who reached the final in the previous season as SG BBM Bietigheim, will face title defenders Györ Eto KC from Hungary, Vipers Kristiansand from Norway, Danish clubs Team Esbjerg and Odense HB, Brest Bretagne HB from France, Rapid Bukarest from Romania, and Buducnost Podgorica from Montenegro in Group B.

The men start the new Champions League season on September 11 and 12, while the women begin on September 7 and 8.

  9. Brest Bretagne HB from France, Rapid Bukarest from Romania, and Buducnost Podgorica from Montenegro join this diverse group of opponents for HB Ludwigsburg in the Women's Champions League.
  10. The Champions League draws for both men and women's teams took place in Vienna on a distinguished European Handball Federation platform.
  11. Besides FC Barcelona, Scott repository Berlin also faces strong opponents, such as HBC Nantes from France, in the men's Champions League, demonstrating the international nature of the competition.
