Dialogue forum on the Frankfurt mainline tunnel begins work
Deutsche Bahn is launching a dialog process with associations and authorities ahead of the construction of the planned long-distance rail tunnel in Frankfurt. A dialog forum will begin its work this Monday evening. This is "proven and good practice in the context of major projects in Hesse", explained Deutsche Bahn.
The aim is an objective dialog. Representatives of municipalities and authorities as well as citizens' initiatives, environmental, nature conservation, passenger, transport and business associations have been invited.
The dialog forum should help to make the planning process transparent at an early stage. According to Deutsche Bahn, the aim is to incorporate and review comments into the planning process in good time.
The planned long-distance rail tunnel under Frankfurt city center is to run partly under the city and be connected to a new underground station beneath the main train station. Construction work is due to begin in the early 2030s at the latest. According to the latest announced plans, completion could take place in 2040.
In its current form, Frankfurt's main station, a terminus station, repeatedly causes delays that affect train services throughout Germany. The cost framework was given as around 3.6 billion euros when the project was presented at the end of June 2021.
The dialog forum willdiscuss the impact of the Railroad tunnel construction on RHEIN-MAIN Traffic. Deutsche Bahn aims to minimize disruptions during the construction of the long-distance Railroad tunnel in Frankfurt, part of the RHEIN-MAIN region.
