Qualifying for the European Championship - DFB women's team face Poland with caution due to Ewa Pajor
In the upcoming EM qualifying match against Poland, the German women's football team will be keeping a close eye on Ewa Pajor. The VfL Wolfsburg striker, who is set to join FC Barcelona, is expected to receive special attention from the DFB during Friday's game at Ostseestadion in Rostock.
Having played alongside her at Wolfsburg for four years, midfielder Lena Oberdorf acknowledged Pajor's remarkable talents: "She's an incredibly talented player. I've never seen her tired in a game. It's going to be really tough to take her out of the game." Although the transfer to Barcelona has not yet been officially confirmed, it's widely accepted in the industry that Pajor will join the reigning Champions League winners and Spanish national team.
Pajor's departure from VfL Wolfsburg, where she won five German championships, is a significant loss for the team. Despite this, Poland will rely on her goal-scoring abilities as they attempt to bounce back from two losses in the EM qualification opener. With a whopping 18 goals to her name, Pajor outscored Lea Schüller (11) and Nicole Anyomi (11) of Munich and Frankfurt, respectively, in the Bundesliga last season.
Marina Hegering, Pajor's former teammate at Wolfsburg and current German defense captain, advised the DFB players on the need to prepare for Pajor's speed and sharpness: "We need to be prepared for the fact that she's going to use her speed. We'll need to be very alert."
