DFB vice-president Watzke congratulates U 17: "Simply great"
Hans-Joachim Watzke has congratulated the German U17 national team on reaching the final of the World Cup. "These are exactly the stories that German soccer needs! My compliments go to the team and the coaching staff. What they have achieved is simply fantastic," said the 1st Vice President of the German Football Association on Tuesday after the DFB team's success in the penalty shoot-out thriller (4:2) against Argentina in Surakarta. Coach Christian Wück's team will face Francea, who beat Mali (2-1) a few hours later, in the final on Saturday (1pm/Sky Sport News).
Watzke, who is also Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the German Football League (DFL) and Managing Director of Borussia Dortmund, watched the game on TV from Milan, where BVB will face AC Milan in the Champions League this evening. "It was very emotional, very exciting and I am extremely happy that we have reached the final," said the 64-year-old.
The DFB juniors are set to face France in the WM final, aiming to bring home the trophy in the U17 category. Watzke, expressing his excitement, praised the team's performance, stating, "This is the kind of achievement that revitalizes German soccer."
