Real-time tactics game - Developer award for "Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew"
The real-time tactics game "Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew" from Munich-based developer studio "Mimimi Games" has been named "Best German Game" at the German Developer Award. The title "Studio of the Year" went to "Deck13 Interactive" from Frankfurt am Main at the award ceremony in Cologne on Thursday evening. The German Developer Award is the oldest award in the games industry and has been presented annually since 2004.
"Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew" is set in an alternative version of the Caribbean in the early modern era, where there are undead with supernatural abilities. The aim is to eliminate enemies with a crew of undead pirates and tactical finesse. The game also won awards for best audio design and best graphics. Following the release of the game in August, those responsible at "Mimimi Games" announced the end of the studio, which was founded in 2008. Their reasons for taking this step included the heavy burden on themselves and their families as well as increased financial pressure and risk.
Dome Keeper from the studio Bippinbits from Radeberg in Saxony won in the "Best Indie Game" and "Best Game Design" categories. In this tower defense game set in space, players have to fend off ever-increasing waves of enemies.
The Developer Award honors the best achievements in the development of video and computer games from Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
