Quarterly figures - Deutsche Messe reports profit of almost 30 million euros
The year 2023 was more successful than expected for Deutsche Messe. With sales of 350 million euros and a profit of almost 30 million euros, the company announced in Hanover on Thursday that it had significantly exceeded its plans. The year proves "that our customers continue to attach great importance to personal meetings and exchanges at trade fairs," said Messe Hannover CEO Jochen Köckler. In total, Deutsche Messe organized around 90 trade fairs and events in Germany and abroad with more than 4.8 million visitors and 26,000 exhibiting companies.
In the previous year, 2022, the trade fair was still struggling with the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic. Due to the virus, many trade fairs were temporarily canceled or switched to digital formats. When the situation eased, trade fair business picked up again rather slowly. Deutsche Messe's bottom line for 2022 was still a loss of around 11 million euros.
The company had also initially calculated a loss of EUR 8 million for this year. However, the industrial show Hannover Messe, among others, increased its visitor numbers from 75,000 to around 130,000. Internationally, events in Turkey and China in particular developed better than expected. In addition, according to Köckler, new events were acquired for the Hannover location, including the ITMA from 2027 onwards, which according to the company is the world's largest international trade fair for textile and clothing technology.
