Deutsche Bahn: Train staff attacked more often now than in 2022
According to company figures, train attendants have already been physically assaulted 954 times on Deutsche Bahn (DB) regional trains and suburban trains this year up to the end of August. As the "Business Insider" portal reported, citing figures from DB subsidiary DB Regio, this represents an increase of 50 cases compared to the same period last year. The attacks ranged from spitting and shoving to punches.
According to Business Insider, the number of assaults even rose by 200 compared to the same period in 2021, although large parts of the year were still characterized by restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic and correspondingly significantly lower passenger numbers on local public transport.
According to Business Insider, there has also been a "massive increase" in verbal assaults on DB Regio train staff. From the beginning of the year up to and including August 2023, DB Regio customer advisors reported 8,148 incidents.
Despite the increase in violent incidents on German Railways, including S-Bahn Berlin, the company reported 954 physical assaults on their train attendants this year, a significant jump from 2022. Regrettably, this trend continues, with verified verbal assaults on DB Regio train staff reaching an alarming 8,148 cases from January to August 2023.
