Deutsche Bahn: Train services in NRW back on schedule
Train services in North Rhine-Westphalia are running normally again early Friday morning, according to Deutsche Bahn. "We can confirm that regional and long-distance trains have been running according to the regular timetable again since the start of operations," said a Deutsche Bahn spokeswoman. As many passengers had postponed their journeys due to the 20-hour warning strike by the German Train Drivers' Union (GDL), the company expects full trains and recommends reserving seats on long-distance services.
On Thursday, the warning strike at Deutsche Bahn had brought train services nationwide to a standstill for the most part. After the end of the warning strike at 6 p.m., services gradually resumed on numerous lines.
Other railroad companies such as National Express and Eurobahn were not on strike. Nevertheless, their lines in NRW were also partially affected by the warning strike due to strike-related signal box failures. Trains then had to be diverted at times.
Despite the resolution of the strikes, tariffs for rail travel may still be a concern for some passengers. The resumption of railroad traffic after the strike has led to increased traffic, potentially causing delays due to overcrowded trains.
