Traffic - Deutsche Bahn opts for tighter intervals in Bavaria for timetable change

With the Deutsche Bahn timetable change this Sunday, there will also be numerous changes in Bavaria. For example, hourly regional express connections will be added in Franconia between Bayreuth and Hof as well as Bamberg and Coburg, as the Bavarian Railway Company (BEG) announced in Munich on Wednesday.

Trains from Hof and Prague will run separately for their connections to Regensburg and Munich in future. Previously, they were brought together in Schwandorf. The BEG hopes that this will improve reliability, as delays will no longer be transferred from one line to the other. In future, the Munich S-Bahn lines to Herrsching, Tutzing and Wolfratshausen will run every 20 minutes all year round. This was previously only the case in the summer months.

Improvements are also planned for long-distance services: The number of Sprinter journeys between Munich and Berlin will increase to up to 14 per direction, meaning that trains will run almost every hour during the day, according to Deutsche Bahn. In future, Nuremberg will have a direct connection to Vienna via Regensburg, Plattling and Passau. Due to construction work, the railroad line between Nuremberg and Bamberg will be closed from December 10 to 16. Passengers will therefore not benefit from the improvements until December 17.

The Free State of Bavaria continues to rely heavily on rail, announced Transport Minister Christian Bernreiter (CSU) at the timetable change. In view of the challenging financing situation with the Deutschlandticket, increased energy prices and higher personnel costs, the Bavarian increase in local transport services is anything but a matter of course. The Free State is spending around 1.7 billion euros a year on this. Unfortunately, parts of Deutsche Bahn's rail infrastructure are dilapidated and often slow down local transportation, Bernreiter added.

According to BEG, interested parties can already get an overview of all the changes in Bavaria at www.moby.bayern. As many connections and travel times are changing, the railroad company advises passengers to inform themselves in good time.
