Illegal Substances Found in Residential Area - Detectives uncover over a ton of cocaine stored in banana boxes.
Over 500 kilos of cocaine were confiscated by authorities in Frankfurt and the Hessian Criminal Investigation Department (LKA) in fruit crates filled with bananas in the Gießen region. It all started when a food retailer found suspicious parcels among the fruits in his warehouse and contacted the police. On Monday, the Customs Investigation Office in Frankfurt, the LKA, and the Gießen Public Prosecutor's Office released a joint statement about this.
It seems that the massive amount of cocaine was shipped from South America to Europe initially. The drugs were carefully concealed in banana crates and then trucked to the Gießen district. Following the food retailer's report, investigators scrutinized about 5,000 banana crates. In their own words, the officers maintained a close relationship with the affected company during the search that occurred on Thursday.
