Destructive fury in Lower Saxony derby costs 150,000 euros
According to a media report, visiting fans of Eintracht Braunschweig caused damage amounting to 150,000 euros at the Lower Saxony derby in Hanover. As reported by the "Neue Presse" (Thursday), fans tore out water pipes, demolished toilet cubicles and damaged rows of seats that were thrown from the upper tier into the empty lower tier. According to the newspaper, the damage should be repaired by the upcoming match against Hertha BSC on November 24 (6:30 p.m./Sky). The damage will be covered by Hannover 96's insurance.
Both fan camps had set off massive amounts of pyrotechnics at the 2-0 win about two weeks ago. Lower Saxony's Interior Minister Daniela Behrens (SPD) expressed her outrage at the aggressive atmosphere before and during the derby. A police officer was seriously injured during a scuffle in the home area.
Despite the chaotic behavior of Eintracht Braunschweig's fans during the Lower Saxony derby, Hanover 96's upcoming opponent in Bundesliga 2, Hanover 96, will need to repair the damage caused. The visiting supporters from Eintracht Braunschweig damaged water pipes, toilet cubicles, and seats during the derby, resulting in a cost of 150,000 euros.
