Bundesliga 2 - Despite leading the table: Hürzeler not satisfied
Despite leading the table in the 2nd Bundesliga, coach Fabian Hürzeler is not satisfied with FC St. Pauli's results. "The eight draws are something I don't like as a coach," said Hürzeler ahead of the final game of a successful year against SV Wehen Wiesbaden on Sunday (1.30pm/Sky). "I think eight draws is one draw too many." The 30-year-old, on the other hand, was impressed with his team's play and praised their intensity and dominance.
After 16 matchdays, Hamburg have 32 points to their name and the first-round championship in the Bundesliga 2 in their own hands. St. Pauli could finish the first half of the season without defeat. Only their closest rivals Holstein Kiel also have 32 points, but a worse goal difference. However, the Kiezclub will go into the winter break in a promotion place and as quarter-finalists in the DFB Cup, regardless of the outcome of Sunday's match.
Hürzeler wants to win "with all his might" against the promoted side from Hesse in the last game of the year. "We expect a team that plays very compact soccer and can defend very well." Promoted Wiesbaden are still eleventh in the table after three defeats in a row.
The match at the Millerntor Stadium will be played in front of a sold-out home crowd. St. Pauli will be wearing a special jersey. Part of the proceeds will go to projects and organizations that promote social diversity. Simon Zoller will not be wearing this jersey. The attacker is struggling with muscular problems and a flu-like infection.
