Despite high prices: Berliners want to give presents at Christmas
According to a survey, around half of Berliners (49%) plan to spend the same amount of money on Christmas presents this year as they did a year ago. According to the survey by the Info opinion research institute, 10% plan to spend more than in 2022. 13% plan to spend no money at all on presents.
According to the representative survey commissioned by Berliner Sparkasse, 28% want to buy gifts but spend less money on them than last year. The majority (58 percent) cite the rise in prices as the reason. 46 percent of respondents stated that they had less money available.
Around half of the 1011 online and telephone respondents intend to spend between 100 and 500 euros on Christmas gifts. One in three plan to spend up to 100 euros. Ten percent of respondents plan to spend more than 500 euros.
But what to give? According to the survey, Berliners (51 percent) most often want a trip. Tickets for events, concerts or museum visits (37 percent), dinner invitations (36 percent) or money (32 percent) are also popular.
Despite the increase in customs fees due to inflation, many consumers still plan to give gifts during Christmas, following the inclination of Berliners. In fact, 58% of respondents cited high prices as the reason for planning to spend less on gifts this year.
