Despite blockade in Ukraine: EU Commission releases ten billion euros for Hungary
Hungary's head of government Viktor Orban has so far blocked the plans. Members of the European Parliament and diplomats are accusing the right-wing populist of "blackmail" because he has also demanded money back from the EU.
Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) increased the pressure on Orban in his government statement on the EU summit in the Bundestag. At the summit, he wants to push for further financial aid of 50 billion euros for Ukraine as well as accession negotiations with Kiev.
