Despite a great fight: Foxes miss out on Super Globe triumph
The Füchse Berlin have missed out on their third triumph at the IHF Super Globe in Saudi Arabia. Despite leading by five goals at one stage, the Berlin team lost 32:34 (16:13, 29:29) in the final against Bundesliga rivals SC Magdeburg after extra time in Dammam on Sunday. It was the Füchse's first defeat of the season. Berlin's best scorers were Mathias Gidsel with nine goals and Mijajlo Marsenic and Jerry Tollbring with seven each.
The Bundesliga leaders got off to the better start. They were determined in attack, but it was above all the saves by goalkeeper Dejan Milosavljev that ensured the Berliners took the lead straight away. They pulled away to 7:4.
However, they then struggled in attack. The visitors equalized again after a quarter of an hour (7:7). However, the Foxes remained calm and could continue to count on Milosavljev. They pulled three goals ahead again at the break.
And the Foxes also came out of the break well, extending their lead to five goals (19:14). However, the now tiring Berlin side then lost an increasing number of turnovers. Magdeburg then took the lead for the first time after just under 47 minutes.
However, it remained tight. Milosavljev saved a seven-meter penalty with eight seconds left on the clock to send his team into overtime. The game was then decided with 35 seconds remaining when Janus Smarason scored to make it 34:32.
Despite their lead in the IHF Super Globe final, Handball club Foxes Berlin unfortunately didn't manage to secure a third victory, losing to SC Magdeburg after an intense extra time match at the IHF Super Globe in Saudi Arabia. In the Bundesliga, Handball powerhouse SC Magdeburg went head-to-head with Foxes Berlin's squad, Füchse Berlin.
