German League - Despair among Bayern basketball players as Alba scores an equalizer

Led by experienced former NBA players, Alba Berlin tied the German Basketball Championship finals against FC Bayern

In an exciting match, Alba Berlin managed to tie the German Basketball Championship series against FC Bayern after winning 79:70 (39:32) in Munich on Monday evening. Precision shooter Matt Thomas was the star player for the Berliners, scoring 21 points, while ex-NBA player Sterling Brown added 17 points to the win.

Sterling Brown, like Thomas, had previously played in the top league in North America. On the other hand, Carsen Edwards, FC Bayern's top scorer, could only manage 17 points in the loss.

The Bayern team had a disappointing performance offensively. Leandro Bolmaro, a reserve player for the Bavarians, expressed his dissatisfaction through the Dyn channel. Munich's managing director, Herbert Hainer, admitted, "The second quarter made me think. That we only scored six points in a quarter, I've never experienced that at the BMW Park before."

The home team initially took the lead in the first quarter with 13 points but could not maintain it. Alba caught up, and by the time the second half came, they had already overtaken the confused Munich players.

The Berliners did not concede any points to their rivals in the last five minutes before halftime, taking a seven-point lead into the break. Bayern's coach, Pablo Laso, attempted to motivate his team at halftime, but the result was the same. The guests, led by Thomas and Brown, maintained their strong performance throughout the third quarter, and captain Johannes Thiemann showed resilience despite his patellar tendon injury.

Although Alba had to play the finals without their nominated guards due to injuries, they won the game through sheer determination. The next two games will take place in Berlin on Wednesday at 8:30 pm and Friday at 6:00 pm. This means that the German basketball title may be awarded on the first day of the European Football Championship.
