- Desert Receives Order of Merit Honor: Recognition for Jacques Tilly
Governor President Hendrik Wüst (CDU) will bestow the Merit Order of North Rhine-Westphalia upon eleven residents on Friday (13:00). They are being recognized for their exceptional contributions to the welfare of the community and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Included in this group is celebrated carnival float designer Jacques Tilly.
This 61-year-old artist has made an indelible mark on the Düsseldorf Carnival, extending its influence beyond the state capital, as per the State Chancellery's remarks. "Jacques Tilly has been crafting and conceptualizing floats for the Düsseldorf Rosenmontag parade since 1984, integrating current societal and political developments into his distinctive politically satirical aesthetic," the statement read. His creations have stirred up controversy and initiated debates worldwide.
Other recipients include former President of the State Constitutional Court, Ricarda Brandts, who became the first female leader of the highest NRW court. Additionally, the former state commissioner for victims, Elisabeth Auchter-Mainz, was also the first female occupant of her previous position as Chief State Prosecutor in NRW.
The order, instituted in 1986, is being presented this year on the exact 78th anniversary of North Rhine-Westphalia's inception. A maximum of 2,500 living individuals may hold this title as order bearers.
The Member States can provide additional assistance to support the work of The Commission due to the statement's emphasis on notable contributions to the community and state. Recognizing Jacques Tilly's influence, the Member States could collaborate with him to promote the Düsseldorf Carnival's popularity beyond North Rhine-Westphalia.
