Derby week in Hamburg: Stallion Narrativo favored

Five days of racing are on the program from Sunday at the racecourse in the Horn district. The highlight is the 155th edition of the German Derby on July 7.

Horse racing - Derby week in Hamburg: Stallion Narrativo favored

At the racecourse in Hamburg-Horn, the traditional Derby week begins on Sunday. In total, there are five Racing days with 51 races scheduled. The highlight and finale is the 155th German Derby on July 7, with a prize money of 650,000 Euro at stake. The favorite is the stallion Narrativo from the Cologne stable of trainer Peter Schiergen, who will be ridden by jockey Bauyrzhan Murzabayev in the race for the coveted Blue Ribbon.

Bahn in perfect condition

The condition of the track in the district of Horn is perfect after a year of racing pause, the inspection commission has given the going a consistently good condition, said Hans-Ludolf Matthiessen, President of the organizing Hamburg Rennclubs, on Thursday.

To protect the going for Derby day, many races will be run on a separate inner course at the first racing days. Hamburg is the only German racecourse operator with two different tracks on one site.

On Sunday, horse racing enthusiasts can enjoy the start of Derby week at the Hamburg-Horn racecourse. During Derby week, there are five race days with a total of 51 races, including the prestigious German Derby on July 7. The racecourse in Hamburg-Horn has been meticulously prepared for Derby week, with the track in excellent condition following a year-long racing pause. To preserve the track for Derby day, several races will be held on an inner course during the initial racing days.
