Bundesliga - Deployment of Wirtz in Stuttgart not ruled out
Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso still has hope that Florian Wirtz will be available ahead of the top clash at VfB Stuttgart. The international suffered an ankle injury in the cup match against SC Paderborn on Wednesday. "He's feeling better every day, but we'll have to wait and see. It's not a major injury and we still have time until Sunday," said coach Xabi Alonso on Friday.
It is too early to make a decision now, explained the Basque, who has great respect for VfB and their home strength. "For me, VfB are the best team in the league. They play with a lot of quality," said the Bayer coach. Alonso and his team are now unbeaten in 21 competitive matches.
An astonishing number of 4,000 fans for Leverkusen will once again accompany the team away from home. "We are very grateful that so many fans are traveling with us. This support is great," said the coach. "You can feel the atmosphere. We've given a bit of hope, but we have to keep working on it every day," said Alonso.
