- Departed from the Left Faction to increase educational personnel
The progressive group in Brandenburg is advocating for increased aid to schools due to an educator deficit, suggesting the addition of extra teaching aides and support personnel. "We're lacking instructors, and the situation isn't likely to improve any time soon," mentioned the group's education representative, Kathrin Dannenberg, post-meeting with the state parliament faction in Potsdam. Schools should be granted the liberty to recruit additional personnel such as teaching aides and support staff. "The strategies adopted by the state government are overly complicated, progressing at a snail's pace," Dannenberg voiced her displeasure.
According to Education Minister Steffen Freiberg (SPD), there were 455 full-time vacancies as the new school year commenced. In terms of progress, the situation has barely changed from the previous year. Freiberg attributed the shortage to a significant boost in student enrollment.
This school year, an approximate 5,000 additional students are being instructed. In tandem, as per the education minister, the teaching faculty has never been larger. Around 3,110 teachers were employed, with nearly 1,700 of them being lateral entrants.
Dannenberg pointed out that the state is postponing last year's wave of vacant positions and that there are already constraints, like in all-day education.
The progressive group suggested left-shifting some responsibilities to teaching aides to mitigate the educator deficit. The current situation in all-day education is strained due to the postponement of addressing last year's vacant positions.
