The Bergische HC is a sports team facing relegation from the Handball Bundesliga. They lost to SG Flensburg-Handewitt on Sunday in Düsseldorf, with a score of 30:40 (14:16). This left them with a total of 20:48 points, placing them in 17th position at the end of the season. The team will likely have to join HBW Balingen-Weilstetten in the 2nd league.

However, Bergische HC has a chance to remain in the Bundesliga. On Wednesday, the Handball Bundesliga (HBL) will decide whether to grant a playing license for HSV Hamburg. The Hanseaten need to make an unknown security contribution in order to obtain this license for the upcoming season. If this doesn't happen, Bergische HC will be able to stay in the league.

If the HBL chooses to support the Hanseaten, there may be more legal problems. "We are absolutely convinced that the issuance of the license is not right," said Bergische HC's managing director, Jörg Föste, during the break on the Dyn streaming service. He continued, "To check this assessment, we have also contacted the arbitration court." The team plans to consider any additional, civil law measures starting on Monday.
