The agreement between BVB and Rheinmetall stirred up discussions in the days prior to the final. Both organizations claimed that the three-year contract includes exclusive advertising areas, marketing rights, and event and hospitality services at the stadium and on the team's website.
Dortmund's upcoming sports director Lars Ricken insisted that the matter had not been an issue within the group. He revealed this "at the latest during breakfast" before the Champions League final, stating that there was "no disturbance" before the game.
