A 21-year-old individual may get a sentence of 12.5 years in jail for stabbing his former lover to death, as per the prosecutors from Hannover. The Hanover Regional Court spokesperson stated that a guilty verdict of manslaughter was proposed on Thursday.

In the proceedings, it's claimed that the man planned to give his relationship with his 21-year-old ex a chance by visiting her apartment. However, he allegedly encountered rejection from her, after which he allegedly stabbed her repeatedly in the neck and chest. Following that, he tried to end his own life. The victim ran outside and died from excessive blood loss. The perpetrator survived.

The defense, meanwhile, demanded a guilty verdict for causing severe bodily harm resulting in death and proposed only a three-year prison sentence. According to the defendant's statement during the earlier hearing, he had wanted to commit suicide but was stopped by the victim. The deadly injuries were not intended, claimed the accused.

Since the assault occurred in November 2023, there have been multiple demonstrations across Hannover against femicides. The term "femicide" refers to "fatal actions against women or an individual woman due to their gender," as per Duden. It's expected that the verdict will be declared on Tuesday (4th June) at 10:00 am, as per court authorities.
