Due to the issue, the RRX lines RE1 and RE5, as well as long-distance trains, had to be rerouted between Cologne-Mülheim and Düsseldorf, causing considerable delays. Furthermore, trains on S-Bahn lines S1 and S6 experienced partial shutdowns. The railway attempted to transport passengers to their destinations using replacement buses at selected stops.
