Stuttgart Regional Court - Defendants allegedly beat up hand grenade thrower

After the attack with a hand grenade at the cemetery in Altbach near Esslingen, members of a funeral congregation must also stand trial in a separate case. The five people attending a funeral - two of German, two of Turkish and one of Georgian nationality - are accused of attempted manslaughter and causing grievous bodily harm, among other things. They allegedly caught the suspected grenade thrower as he was fleeing and beat him up as if he was intoxicated. Until the police arrived, they punched and kicked him and, according to the public prosecutor's office, did not let go of him even when paramedics tried to help.

While the five young men have been before the juvenile court since Thursday, the trial of the 23-year-old alleged main perpetrator from Altbach has already begun. The public prosecutor's office is accusing the confessed Iranian of attempted murder.

The bloody incident in the Neckar Valley is regarded as the climax of a dispute between two rival groups. According to the public prosecutor's office, the alleged grenade thrower belongs to a gang from the Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen and Göppingen area, while the mourners were affiliated with another group from the Esslingen area. The attack on the mourners took place on June 9. Only luck prevented a bloodbath with many deaths, but at least 15 people were injured, some of them seriously.

For several months now, there have been repeated acts of violence in this feud in the Stuttgart area. People have repeatedly been shot at. According to the State Office of Criminal Investigation, 52 arrests have been made so far.
