Oldenburg - Defendant confesses to flash burglary at jewelry store

A man has confessed to a flash burglary at a jeweler's before the Oldenburg District Court. According to a court spokesperson, the 43-year-old said at the start of the trial on Monday that he was in financial difficulties at the time. The accused and his accomplices are said to have stolen jewelry and watches worth 918,000 euros.

The public prosecutor's office accuses the accused of stealing a car in Oldenburg in June with unknown accomplices. They are said to have driven the car into the vestibule of the jewelry store. They then allegedly loaded jewelry and watches into a second car and fled the store.

At the beginning of the trial, the defendant admitted to having known about the stolen car, according to the court spokesman. He had lifted and held the store's roller shutters during the break-in. He had sat in the passenger seat during the escape in the other car. The 43-year-old did not give any details about his accomplices. A verdict in the trial for particularly serious theft could be handed down on January 10.
