- Defeat to Paris: Thunder without playoff opportunity
Berlin Thunder lost the penultimate home game in the European League of Football and have no chance of reaching the playoffs. Against Paris Musketeers, they lost in Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark after leading at halftime, 37:40 (23:14). Eight seconds before the end, Dawson Wales sealed the Thunder's defeat with an intercepted pass.
The home team started well, taking the lead in the first drive. However, after running back Albert Wiesigstrauch's touchdown, it was quiet on the scoring front in the sports arena at the Mauerpark. It wasn't until the second quarter that an interesting game developed. The 23:14 halftime lead was well-deserved for Berlin.
Thunder squandered their lead and playoff chance
But in the second half, the guests from the Seine turned the game around, taking the lead for the first time three minutes before the end of the third quarter. Berlin made typical Thunder mistakes in the second 30 minutes. Two Berlin turnovers within 30 seconds changed the momentum. Paris punished the mistakes consistently. Berlin's head coach Johnny Schmuck had demanded more consistency from his team during halftime.
However, Thunder suffered their third consecutive defeat. The playoffs are now out of reach for Berlin. The match between Berlin and Paris, along with the game between Frankfurt and Cologne (37:43), was at least a close encounter. All other games of the day, with differences of up to 46 points, were once again evidence of the imbalance in the ELF - a flaw in the league.
Despite having a significant lead at halftime, the Thunder sadly lost their American football game against Paris Musketeers. This defeat not only ended their winning streak but also dashed their hopes of reaching the playoffs in American football.
