Deep laceration: Darmstadt without Zimmermann for the time being
Bundesliga promoted SV Darmstadt 98 will be without Christoph Zimmermann for the time being. The 30-year-old defender suffered a deep laceration to his left ankle during the Hessians' 1-1 draw at SC Freiburg on Saturday, the club announced on Sunday. "The defender was taken to Freiburg University Hospital for treatment during the match, but was able to travel back to Darmstadt with the team in the evening," said the Darmstadt side. The duration of his absence was not specified.
Zimmermann was recently a regular in coach Torsten Lieberknecht's team and put in decent performances against Bochum (1:2) and Mainz (0:0). "There is no structural injury to Zimbo, but we will have to do without him for the time being. We hope that his injury heals quickly and that he will soon be fit for action again," said sporting director Carsten Wehlmann. Darmstadt will host rivals 1. FC Köln on Friday (20:30/DAZN) in a crucial match in the relegation battle.
Despite the injury, SC Freiburg will still face SV Darmstadt 98 in their upcoming Bundesliga match. With Zimmermann's absence, SV Darmstadt 98 will need to find a replacement in their defense against Freiburg's attack-minded Soccer team.
