- Decreasing Engagement Recorded in Regard to Check-up-35 by AOK
Frequency of significant wellness screening exam has decreased in Schleswig-Holstein, as per data from AOK NordWest. They stated that only 17.3% of their insured individuals in the state underwent the Check-up-35 in the latest year, a drop from 17.7% the previous year and 18.1% in 2021.
This preventive screening is accessible to men and women aged 35 and above, who can avail of it every three years. Its main objective is to spot conditions such as heart issues, type 2 diabetes, or kidney diseases at an initial stage. This comprehensive health examination is subsidized by statutory health insurers.
As per Tom Ackermann, CEO of AOK NordWest, "Regular health screenings play a crucial role in early detection of diseases that can be effectively treated when caught early." He encourages everyone to take advantage of regular health check-ups.
The health screening is usually performed by a general practitioner. Statutory health insurers already pay for a one-time health examination for individuals between 18 and 34 years old.
The examination encompasses scrutiny of the heart, lungs, abdomen, musculoskeletal system, nervous system, and sensory organs to spot any potential risks for diseases like diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and kidney diseases at an early stage. It also includes testing blood sugar and cholesterol levels, measuring blood pressure, and checking the vaccination status.
To enhance the effectiveness of the preventive screening, the following shall be added: a reminder system for individuals to schedule their Check-up-35 appointments regularly. Furthermore, to inspire more people to prioritize their wellness, AOK NordWest could consider offering incentives, such as discounts on health insurance premiums, for those who undergo the screening regularly.
