In 2023, the number of divorces in Saxony-Anhalt saw a decrease compared to the preceding year. As per the numbers from the Saxony-Anhalt State Office of Statistics, a total of 3,152 unions ended last year. This marks a decrease of 3.8% compared to 2022, when 3,275 divorces were registered. The report further indicates a decrease of 11.1% compared to 2019.

The statistics reveal that the majority of marriages called it quits after 11 to 20 years. Interestingly, only about 5.6% or 177 pairs had been married for more than 36 years. Conversely, approximately 7.1% ended within the first 3 years. Same-sex marriages typically lasted around 5 years on average. Men, on average, were 47.4 years old at the time of divorce, while women stood at 44.3 years.

Despite the decrease in divorces, discussions about divorce and separation remain prevalent in many households. Additionally, counseling services for managing divorce and separation processes have reported an increase in clients seeking their assistance.
