The Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament is debating additional funding for the reception of refugees today (from 9.30 a.m.). This involves a total of 267.2 million euros from state and federal funds.

The MPs will also discuss the final report of the Enquete Commission, which was set up after the Ahr flood. According to the report, Rhineland-Palatinate should be better prepared for disasters in the future through prevention, planning and municipal cooperation.

The second day of the plenary week in Mainz will also focus on water abstraction fees. Until now, the abstraction of groundwater and water from surface waters for irrigation in agriculture and forestry has been free of charge - according to a draft law from the Ministry of the Environment, this is set to change in future. The MPs will also discuss the use of unused living space in the country.
