Dealing with heavy rain: Ministry publishes guidelines
In view of the increasing number of heavy rainfall events to be expected, the Saxony-Anhalt Ministry of the Environment has produced a guide for local authorities. It can be assumed that there will be more heavy rainfall in Saxony-Anhalt in the future due to climate change, said Environment Minister Armin Willingmann (SPD) on Monday. The municipalities are also to use this to create an analysis of the current risk situation. Corresponding information maps are to be published for the whole of Saxony-Anhalt by mid-2024.
In recent years, there have also been repeated heavy rainfall events in Saxony-Anhalt, for example in Tangermünde, Stendal and Genthin.
Given the projected impact of climate change on weather patterns, it's crucial for civil protection strategies to account for an increase in heavy rainfall events. Therefore, the guidelines published by the Ministry of Environment serve as essential tools for municipalities to assess and mitigate related risks.
