Mainz - Daycare center construction: Mayor in favor of simpler awarding rules

In view of the lack of places for nursery children and schoolchildren, the Mayor of Mainz, Nino Haase, is calling for less rigid rules for awarding building projects. Municipalities should be able to award the construction of several daycare centers and schools in a block to one client, the independent politician told the German Press Agency in Mainz. It should also be possible to award contracts to a general contractor again. There was no way around a reduction in bureaucracy.

The issue of childcare is of enormous importance for a city like Mainz, emphasized Haase. The expansion of childcare services is indispensable for children and families and is also one of the most effective measures for promoting the economy. Skilled workers coming to Mainz need childcare facilities.

According to Haase, local authorities are facing a huge task in view of the entitlement to all-day care for primary school children from 2026. This would also require the construction of canteens, for example. This topic shows once again that the demands on infrastructure are constantly increasing. The "cumbersome public procurement law" is simply slowing things down too much, according to Haase.
