- Darmstadt's second-place finisher and head coach, Lieberknecht, decide to separate ways.
"The low-tier team SV Darmstadt 98 and their manager, Torsten Lieberknecht, have decided to part ways immediately. Lieberknecht, who's 51, was the one who initiated the split, the team announced following their awful 0:4 loss against SV Elversberg. With this latest defeat, they've now lost three out of four second-tier matches this season, dropping them down to the second-last spot in the rankings."
"I've always stressed that no one is more important than the club, not even me," Lieberknecht stated in a release, continuing with, "By making this tough choice after careful thought, I hope it'll help everyone move forward and pool their efforts for the challenges to come."**
Lieberknecht joined the Hessians in the summer of 2021. In the 2022/2023 term, he astonishingly guided the 'Lilies' to a promotion to the Bundesliga. However, their stay at the top-tier was brief, as they were demoted again as the first-place contenders.**
"Today isn't a great day for SV Darmstadt 98. Because a person who's deeply connected with the 'Lilies' and has significantly contributed to the club is no longer our coach," said SV Darmstadt 98 president Rüdiger Fritsch.**
In the interim, the current coaching duo of Darius Scholtysik and Ovid Hajou will handle training, the team announced. The club will reveal Lieberknecht's replacement "when the time is right."
"Despite the team's current struggle in the Second Bundesliga, Lieberknecht's impact was significant during his time, as he successfully led SV Darmstadt 98 to the Bundesliga and back again."
"Unfortunately, the club's current position in the Second Bundesliga is far from ideal, having lost three out of four matches, placing them second to last in the rankings."
