- Darmstadt under pressure ahead of the Cup

After a disastrous start to the second league season, the DFB Cup is expected to bring the much-needed turnaround for SV Darmstadt 98. "We want to now secure our success in the cup," said sporting director Paul Fernie to the online portal "Lilienblog" ahead of Sunday's match (15:30 CET/Sky) against regionalliga side FC Teutonia Ottensen.

The Bundesliga relegated side started with two defeats and is currently in a relegation spot. Everyone would now be longing for positive results and the feeling of winning again, said Fernie.

Going into the first round match against the regionalliga side, the under-pressure Hessians are clear favorites. It is important to live up to this favorite role and advance to the next round. "We definitely have the quality for that," he said.

According to Fernie, the big challenge is to show that the team can overcome an unsatisfactory situation and a difficult season start due to the lack of points. He was particularly impressed by the fans who continue to support the team unconditionally. "That's exactly the push and feeling we need," said the sporting director.

The face of the team is set to change again before the end of the transfer period. Fernie is planning two more new signings. The arrival of offensive player Isac Lidberg from FC Utrecht is reportedly imminent. Furthermore, the lilies are still looking for a player for the left wing.

The upcoming DFB Cup match against FC Teutonia Ottensen is seen as a opportunity for SV Darmstadt 98 to perform well in a Football league, aiming to secure their success in the tournament. With their current relegation spot in the Football league, every victory, including in the DFB Cup, is crucial for the Hessians to regain momentum.
