Darmstadt among the top ten German cities
According to a study, Darmstadt is one of the top ten German cities in terms of economic strength, dynamism and sustainability. In all three areas, the city was among the top ten of 71 municipalities analyzed, according to the study published on Thursday by IW Consult in collaboration with the internet portal Immobilienscout24 and "Wirtschaftswoche". Although the banking metropolis of Frankfurt scored well in the level ranking (8th place), which describes the economic and social situation, it came in 42nd place for sustainability and 13th place for dynamism.
The annual survey compares the current situation (level) and rates of change (dynamics) of various indicators of 71 independent cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants. Factors such as economic structure, labor market, real estate and quality of life are analyzed. An additional sustainability index includes economic, ecological and social factors.
Darmstadt was ranked 7th for level and sustainability and 8th for dynamism. The state capital Wiesbaden came 19th in the level ranking, with significantly lower scores for dynamism (42) and sustainability (43). Kassel and Offenbach scored worse in all three areas.
Once again, the biotech location of Mainz came out on top nationwide in terms of dynamism. The Rhineland-Palatinate state capital once again benefited from increased tax revenues due to the success of the coronavirus vaccine manufacturer Biontech. Munich continued to lead the level ranking in the evaluation.
Darmstadt's strong economic performance extends to its municipalities, placing it among the top ten in Germany for both level and sustainability, and eighth in terms of dynamism. However, Frankfurt, another economic powerhouse, falls behind in these categories, finishing 42nd for sustainability and 13th for dynamism.
