Level 2 of the German League - Darmstadt acquires winger Sergio López.
SV Darmstadt 98, a team relegated to the first division, has acquired Sergio López from FC Basel. López, a wing player initially trained at Real Madrid, officially penned the deal on Friday. Darmstadt's second-tier promotion plans did not reveal further details. The Spaniard has been with Basel for three years now.
Hailing from Remscheid, López joined Real Madrid's youth team in the summer of 2016. His tenure from 2018 to 2021 was with Madrid's reserves, minus a nearly one-year spell on loan to Real Valladolid's second team.
Before Basel, he held a contract with the Swiss traditional club. Here, the right-footed player garnered 55 first-team appearances (3 goals, 3 assists) and seven cup games. On the international front, López starred in 21 matches for Basel, including 10 games in the Conference League and 11 games in the qualifiers.
Darmstadt's coach, Torsten Lieberknecht, labeled him an "enthusiastic player," who brings much-needed adaptability to the squad.
