Soccer - Dardai's plans: Christmas Eve in Berlin, then battles

Fish soup, pig slaughter, indoor soccer: Hertha coach Pal Dardai has a special program for the short Christmas break. After Christmas Eve in Berlin, the plan is to head home. "If everything goes well, I might take my wife and my dog to Hungary afterwards. Slaughtering pigs - but to European standards," said the coach. A Dardai family tradition. However, the animal is delivered already cut up, so Dardai doesn't have to reach for the pin himself. Sausage is made afterwards. "Today we no longer kill the pigs. Guys, it's already cut in half," said Dardai about the process. But they are their own pigs.

This time, the family is eating the traditional Christmas Eve fish soup in the German capital. "Palko and Bence are injured, they have to keep training," said the 47-year-old head coach about his sons, who, like their middle brother Marton, also work for the second division club. "That's why we're staying here." The brothers will therefore work with Head of Licensing Zecke Neuendorf and Hertha 's physiotherapists.

This means that neither is likely to play a major role in another Dardai classic in his native Hungary: indoor soccer. "The traditional tournament in the name of my father, who passed away. We've been playing this tournament for several years, even when he was still alive," said the coach. There are also celebrations. "You have eight teams. All 300 people eat, drink and dance. That's all part of it. A day at the spa and then back."

The Hungarian is not worried that he might injure himself at the indoor tournament so shortly before the start of Hertha training on January 3. There is enough time. "A torn muscle fiber heals," said Dardai.
