Religion - Damage to Hanukkah candelabra: LKA investigates

After unknown persons damaged a Hanukkah candelabra in Tempelhof-Schöneberg late on Monday evening, the State Security Department of the State Criminal Police Office is now investigating. Police officers had noticed as they drove past that a Hanukkia set up on the street An der Urania had been partially destroyed, as the police announced on Tuesday. Unknown persons had torn down one of the eight lights and thrown it on the ground; a sign attached to the candelabra had also been removed. The investigation into the perpetrators is ongoing.

The Jewish festival of Hanukkah commemorates the re-dedication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem after a revolt against the Greeks in 164 BC and the "miracle of light" of a candelabrum burning for eight days. This year, it lasts from December 7 to the evening of December 15.
