I began with the words RAISE and TOUCH, which provided me with four of five letters. There were several solutions available with these letters, but only STERN started with an 'S' and 'T' that had already been ruled out.

Meanwhile, an MIT analysis found that you can eliminate the most possibilities in the first round by starting with one of these:
- SALET
- REAST
