Local Residents Discover Abandoned Campsite on Usedom Island - Daily German-Polish police patrols on the roads.
Starting today, German and Polish police officers will work together daily on the island of Usedom. According to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's Interior Minister Christian Pegel (SPD), three German and three Polish officers will be tasked with handling accidents, burglaries, and traffic issues on both the German and Polish sides. This cooperation aims to enhance safety in the popular region and improve its overall image.
From 2021 to 2023, there was already a monthly occurrence of joint policing efforts between officers from Swinemünde (Świnoujście) and Heringsdorf. The bond between the two police departments in Stettin and Neubrandenburg will now be formalized, as explained by Neubrandenburg Police President Thomas Dabel.
The German-Polish police team has undergone joint training in legal knowledge and law enforcement tactics, as well as improving their language skills between Polish or German. Their office is now based on the German side of the island in Ahlbeck, which was officially opened on Saturday.
The major portion of the East Sea island belongs to Germany, and the German resort of Ahlbeck is located on the western side. The Polish resort of Swinemünde is situated at the eastern end of Usedom.
