- Cyclist seriously injured in collision with car and truck
A cyclist was severely injured in a collision with a car and a truck on a rural road near Malchow (Mecklenburgische Seenplatte district). As the police reported, the 71-year-old was first struck from the side by a car making a turn. The 55-year-old driver of the car failed to see the cyclist for unknown reasons. The cyclist was thrown from his bike and then hit by a truck.
The 63-year-old truck driver was unable to avoid the collision despite emergency braking, according to the police. The severely injured cyclist was taken to a hospital by helicopter. His injuries are not life-threatening.
The investigation into the accident revealed that poor signage and insufficient lighting in the area could have impacted visibility for all involved, highlighting the importance of regular maintenance and upgrades in transport and telecommunications infrastructure.
