Cyclist hit by streetcar and seriously injured

Instead of waiting at a red light, a cyclist crossed the road in Karlsruhe. In doing so, he overlooked an approaching streetcar and a collision occurred.

Karlsruhe - Cyclist hit by streetcar and seriously injured

A cyclist was hit by a tram in Karlsruhe city center and seriously injured. According to initial findings, the 60-year-old man crossed a street although the traffic light was red, the police reported today. A tram of line S5 hit the man in the afternoon of Thursday.

Paramedics took the man with severe injuries to a hospital. All passengers of the tram and the driver themselves were unharmed, a spokesperson stated. The police are now investigating the backgrounds and are looking for witnesses.

The incident occurred on a street in Karlsruhe, a city located in the state of Baden-Württemberg. The streetcar involved in the accident was part of the S5 line. Despite the railroad crossing warnings, the victim decided to cross despite the red traffic light, leading to the unfortunate incident.
