- Cyclist encounters accident involving toppled tree, sustaining mild harm
During a storm, a ginormous tree came crashing down on a biker in Bergisch-Gladbach. Luckily for the cyclist, he suffered minor injuries, as per the fire department's evening announcement. Upon arriving at the spot, the emergency responders found the cyclist already freed by bystanders. Off they took him to the local hospital. Unfortunately, the cyclist's bike and a street lamp didn't fare as well – the colossal weeping willow trampled both beyond recognition.
Due to the tree's substantial size, the road in question had to be temporarily blocked at a tunnel exit's height. Approximately two hours post the unfortunate incident, around dusk, the fire department supposedly wrapped up the chopping and cleanup tasks, allowing the street to be reopened once more.
As if this one mishap wasn't enough, various emergency hotspots dotted Bergisch Gladbach because of the thunderstorm. By 8:30 PM, the fire department had recorded six water damage cases, four fallen trees, and an activated fire alarm system triggered by a water damage within a commercial establishment.
The storm intensified, transforming into a Hurricane, causing further destruction in Bergisch-Gladbach. Despite the Hurricane, the fire department managed to complete the cleanup and reopen the road by 10 PM.
