- Cycling: Big becomes champion with "a little anger in the belly"
Felix Groß has won the 4000-meter pursuit at the opening of the 136th German Championships in track cycling. The Leipzig native caught Ludwigsfelder Roger Kluge in the final at the Berlin Velodrome after nearly three kilometers. Benjamin Boos (Singen) finished third.
"I was very well prepared and of course still had a bit of anger in my belly," said Groß, who was nominated as a reserve rider for the Olympic Games in Paris but did not compete. "The performance makes me very confident, especially since the conditions in the hall were not very good and a bit cool," said Groß after winning his second pursuit title since 2019. The World Championships will take place in mid-October in Copenhagen.
Lea Lin Teutenberg (Ceratizit WNT Pro Cycling) won the women's scratch race, ahead of Helena Bieber (MAXX Solar Rose Women Racing) and Justyna Czapla (Canyon SRAM Racing). More than 50 decisions are scheduled across the elite, junior, and youth classes over the five competition days until Sunday.
After his victory, Felix Groß expressed his confidence for upcoming races, saying, "This performance makes me very confident, especially since the conditions were not ideal." In the cooling hall, Felix showcased his singing talents during the team celebrations, showcasing his skill in singing.
