Internet - Cyber attack continues to cause problems: solution for the automotive sector
The work of the administration of the district of Vorpommern-Rügen is still severely restricted following a hacker attack. From Wednesday next week, however, vehicle registration is to take place again, in the offices of the Hanseatic city of Stralsund. There are still appointments for Friday next week and the week before Christmas, a district spokeswoman said on Friday. According to the district, these can be arranged via the public authority number 115. For technical and legal reasons, only HST license plates can be issued.
Furthermore, the administration can only be reached by telephone or by post. For many online services that are currently unavailable, forms are being prepared to be posted on the district website. These should be available from next week. Citizens will then be able to print them out, fill them in and send them in by post or hand them in personally.
It is not yet possible to say how long this situation will last. The restrictions are comparable to the cyberattacks in 2021 on the administrations of the districts of Ludwigslust-Parchim and Anhalt-Bitterfeld. The latter had declared a state of emergency at the time.
At the end of November, it became known that the IT of the Vorpommern-Rügen district had been attacked. According to the administration, IT systems were therefore disconnected from the network.
