- Cyber assaults on advanced medical facilities, resulting in postponed surgeries
Cyber attack Hits Wertach Clinics in Augsburg, Causing Disruptions
The Wertach Clinics in Augsburg have suffered a cyber attack, as per initial investigations. The main computer system has been compromised, confirmed a representative from the clinics.
As of now, both clinics are functioning in a rudimentary, offline mode. All surgeries scheduled for Monday at Bobingen have been deferred as a safety measure. The cyber attack was identified during the early hours of Sunday due to extensive IT disruptions. All affected parties, including patients, staff, and authorities, have been informed about the IT malfunctions.
The staff at Wertach Clinics is working diligently to bring back the normal functioning of the IT systems and the regular workflow of the clinics at the earliest. "Patient safety and well-being is our utmost concern," stated clinic director Martin Goesele.
Since Sunday, cybercrime experts from the Bavarian Police Headquarters North have been investigating the incident. The primary focus is to determine the origin of the attack. For strategic reasons, a police spokesperson has chosen not to disclose any details about the type of attack or potential suspects.
The affected parties, including patients and staff, have been directed to seek medical assistance from nearby hospitals until the IT systems at Wertach Clinics are restored. Due to the cyber attack, all non-urgent appointments at the Hospital in Augsburg have also been postponed temporarily.
