Frankfurt (Oder) - Customs seize over 67 kilos of illegal firecrackers
Customs officers have seized over 67 kilograms of illegal fireworks in Frankfurt (Oder) - two young men fled during an inspection. This was announced by the main customs office on Wednesday. According to the information, the customs officers checked a group of young men who were crossing the city bridge from Poland to Germany with a shopping trolley and a suitcase on Saturday.
They confiscated a total of 238 packages containing 4,760 category 3 firecrackers, which require a permit. According to the customs officers, two of the three men checked were able to flee during the check and were not apprehended. Criminal tax proceedings were initiated, two against persons unknown.
According to the Explosives Act, legally approved category 3 and 4 fireworks that have been tested by an EU member state may only be set off by trained and certified fireworks experts. In the border region with Poland, customs officials repeatedly seize unauthorized fireworks. According to the information, pyrotechnics can be purchased in the neighboring country all year round.
