Customs find smuggled medicines during inspections

Customs in Heilbronn have discovered contraband during checks on highways 6 and 3. On the A6, 323 pieces of "prescription drugs with antibiotic active ingredients" were discovered, the customs authorities in Heilbronn announced on Thursday regarding the discovery on November 8. The import, export or transit was therefore subject to authorization.

According to the information provided, the driver was unable to explain what the medicines were intended for, and seven cartons of untaxed cigarettes were also seized. "The medicines were handed over to the market surveillance authority, the responsible regional council, with a control notification," the statement continued. The suspected driver must now face criminal tax proceedings. He must also pay a good 300 euros in tobacco tax.

During another check on November 10 on the A3 at Almosenberg, the officers also found 26 cartons of untaxed cigarettes and 800 grams of untaxed fine-cut tobacco. Tax proceedings were also initiated here, and the tax due amounts to just under 1000 euros, according to the report.

The discovery of contraband during highway inspections in Heilbronn raises concerns about potential crime related to drug smuggling. The seized medications with antibiotic active ingredients could be a part of a larger illegal drug trade.
